The 11th Commandment Heads For TV
Gale Anne Hurd adapts Jeffrey Archer.... Former politician and long-time potboiler novelist Jeffrey Archer might not be the world's most literary scribbler, but he certainly seems to attract plenty of attention for film and TV types looking to shove his work on both the big and small screens. Hot on the heels of Bourne producer Frank Marshall signing on to develop his book A Matter of Honour as a movie comes word that The Walking Dead's Gale Anne Hurd wants to turn another of his tomes, The Eleventh Commandment, into a TV series. The novel, originally published in 1998, follows what happens when ace CIA assassin Connor Fitzgerald is framed for a fake assassination attempt on a Russian presidential candidate. Fitzgerald must race to prove his innocence and also prevent World War III. "Jeffrey Archer's storytelling is compelling, character driven and perfect for television-full of fast-paced, high-stakes danger," Hurd said in a statement picked up by Deadline. There's no word yet on whether her Valhalla Entertainment company is looking to tinker with the plot to bring it a little more up to date. As of right now, it's simply in development, though given Hurd's recent track record, it has a good chance of hitting our goggle boxes. Both of these new projects work of Canadian company New Franchise Media, which struck a deal last year for the worldwide rights to 10 of Archer's books. So if the idea of new visual fodder based on Archer's work has you delighted or depressed, you know who to credit/blame...Watch X-Men: First Class Online For Free
The Arrival of Wang (L'arrivo di Wang)
Reminiscent of an overextended "Twilight Zone" episode but still good for a laugh, Italian low-budgeter "The Arrival of Wang" works through an amusing sci-fi premise. Written and helmed by brothers Antonio and Marco Manetti ("Zora la vampira"), story revolves around a pro Italian translator called in for a highly unusual assignment that tests her principles and sense of trust. Pic should turn a modest profit locally but won't arrive in much style offshore, though it could garner a minor cult following in ancillary. Rome resident Gaia (Francesca Cuttica) is summoned by government agent Curti (Ennio Fantastichini) to translate Mandarin into Italian at a location so secret she's blindfolded en route. Once there, she's not even allowed to see Wang (voiced by Li Yong), the person she's interpreting for, which makes the job doubly difficult. Turns out Wang's actually an alien from another planet, who sensibly learned Mandarin after ascertaining it was the most widely spoken language on Earth. Disgusted at the rough treatment Curti and Co. dish out, Gaia tries to free Wang, but there's another twist in store. Cheap but cheerful effects enhance pic's pleasingly schlocky feel. Richard Ayoade joins Ben Stiller in Neighborhood Watch
Submarine director (and Total Film columnist) Richard Ayoade has landed a high-profile role alongside Ben Stiller in Neighborhood Watch. The Shaun Levy-produced movie revolves around a bunch of guys who get together to form the titular community group, but instead of sitting around drinking tea and moaning about the brightness of streetlights, they actually uncover a major conspiracy. As far as recent high-concepts go, this one sounds like it has potential, throwing ordinary schlubs into a fun sounding situation, and hopefully mocking neighbourhood watch schemes along the way. Vince Vaughn and Jonah Hill have already been cast.Akiva Schaffer (Saturday Night Live, Hot Rod) is directing, with a script from Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. Before shooting to fame as a TF columnist (and, y'know, a Brit director to keep a very close eye on), Ayoade was best known as an actor in the likes of British TV gems such as Nathan Barley, Garth Marenghi's Darkplace and The IT Crowd. His next movie as director will be an adaptation of Dostoyevsky's The Double, starring Jesse Eisenberg.Neighborhood Watch is expected to open in summer 2012.Watch The Hangover 2 Online For Free

The DGA examined a lot more than 2,600 episodes created within the 2010-2011 television season from a lot more than 170 scripted television series. The report demonstrated that White males directed 77% of episodes White women directed 11% of episodes minority males directed 11% of episodes and minority women directed just 1% of episodes. Among one-hour series, White males directed 80% of episodes, as well as in half-hour series, White males directed 74% of episodes. Burn Notice, House and Military Spouses hired women or minority company directors at considerably greater rates last year-2010 but unsuccessful to keep the diversity of the employing practices which are more recent television season. DGAs Better Of List Simultaneously, the next shows should be outlined for his or her more diverse employing records this year-2011: Implies That HIRED WOMEN OR MINORITY Company directors Not Less Than 30% OF EPISODES: Title (Production Company) Percentage: The Center (Warner Bros.) 63% Hung (Cinemax) 60% In Treatment (Cinemax) 54% 90210 (CBS) 45% Treme (Cinemax) 45% The Great Wife (CBS) 39% Drop Dead Diva (Woodridge Productions/CPT Holdings/The new sony) 38% CSI: NY (CBS) 36% Private Practice (ABC) 36% Rules of Engagement (Montrose Productions/CPT Holdings/The new sony) 35% Nurse Jackie (Nurse Productions/Lions Gate) 33% Greys Anatomy (ABC) 32% CSI: Miami (CBS) 32% In Plain Sight (NBC) 31% Mad Males (U.R.O.K. WORST OF First-Year Series Franklin & Party (Woodridge Productions/CPT Holdings/The new sony) % Hot in Cleveland (King Street) % Nikita (NS Pictures) % Teen Wolf (On-site Productions/MTV/Viacom) % Melissa and Joey (Prodco) 3% Raising Hope (Fox) 5% Breakout Nobleman (Fox) 8% Harrys Law (Bonanza Productions/Warner Bros.) 9% Hawaii Five- (Eye Productions/CBS) 13% Individually, the DGA congratulates the very first-year shows, outlined below, which have already shown dedication to diverse employing practices. Better Of First-Year Series Allows Stay Together (Breakdown Productions/Wager) 100% Shall We Be There Yet? (AWTY Productions) 86% Set of Nobleman (Its fun Productions) 50% The Walking Dead (Stalwart Films/Stu Segall Productions) 50% The Killing (Killing Productions/TVM Productions/Fox) 46% Body of Proof (Paige Productions/ABC) 33% Pretty Little Liars (Horizon Scripted Television) 33% Within the 2009-2010 television season, White males directed 75% from the episodes interviewed White women directed 11% of episodes minority males directed 12% of episodes and minority women directed 2% of episodes. As the figures continued to be static for White women this year-2011, the share of episodes directed by minority males dropped (from 12% to 11%) and also the area of episodes directed by minority women came by half (from 2% to at least onePercent). The data appear to show that in general, most production companies have shown little if any interest or effort in growing diversity within their employing practices from year upon year. Through the years, the Guilds Black, Asian, Latino and Womens Committees have held conferences as well as networking occasions with producers, systems and studio reps introducing gifted company directors to key producers and tv professionals. In the advocating from the Guild, several production companies established diversity programs concerned with the amount of ladies and minority company directors and provide them contact with executive producers yet others who hire. However, these diversity programs have borne disappointing results. It is not enough to simply give lip plan to the thought of growing diversity behind your camera, stated Paris Barclay, the DGAs First V . P . and Co-Chair from the Diversity Task Pressure from the DGA National Board. (Barclay also offered being an executive producer of In Treatment and it is presently a professional producer for Sons of Anarchy.) These programs are to date neglecting to meet their promise. So would go ahead and take discussion straight to folks on each show who result in the employing choices. The DGA discussed a brand new provision in the newest collective negotiating contracts, which required impact on This summer 1, that will let it meet directly with professionals accountable for employing in the individual show level. Since the Guild has completed its analysis of diversity employing practices in the newest television season, the Guild is arranging conferences with individual shows to deal with the issue. We're encouraging shows, production companies, and systems once they weigh in, to provide possibilities to up-and-coming company directors all skills, stated Lesli Linka Glatter, Board Member and Co-Chair from the Diversity Task Pressure from the DGA National Board. (Glatter won a DGA Award this past year for pointing a chapter of Mad Males and it is presently a co-executive producer for that Playboy Club.) Weve heard the excuses from individuals accountable for employing they shouldn't take a risk on the new director. But you the industry employs new company directors constantly its that many of them are whitened males. DGA statistics reveal that from the 130 first-time episodic company directors hired in calendar years 2009 and 2010, 78% were White males, 13% were White women, 7% were minority males and a pair ofPercent were minority women. Barclay added, The question each producer must request is, Am I the kind of person who makes excuses or takes action? The DGA put together the data with this report from information supplied by the development companies towards the DGA pursuant towards the needs from the collective negotiating agreement for episodes created throughout this years-2011 season, after which made its best effort to validate the data using the production companies directly by providing every production company the chance to examine its very own statistics. Some companies unsuccessful to ensure their statistics.
